FRIDAY REFLECTIONS: Where Were We Headed?

Refreshing the vision...

Ever start well, only to trip over unexpected obstacles?

Or look away for second, and take a detour you didn’t intend?

Last week I was soaking in the freedom of giving up procrastination…and embracing a bedtime/morning routine that was nourishing to my soul. And for a while, it was utter bliss. I was enjoying the lovely margin of unhurried time around the edges of my day for all it was worth. Yet somehow this week, that train has totally gone off the rails.

It was little things at first. A weekend retreat with a slightly different schedule. No worries – after all, legalism isn’t the goal. Then a couple days of feeling under the weather. No biggie – a little rest is all that’s needed. And after that, one thing and then another, until all my lovely “margin” began to disappear. Not all at once, and not completely, but inch by inch it began receding like the edges of a beach being eroded by the waves.

So today I feel the need to regroup and regain a sense of direction.

To take a deep breath, wriggle my toes in the sand, and remember where I’m headed. Oh that’s right. I’m aiming for freedom. Simple, God-focused freedom. The kind that comes from showing up, putting first things first, and letting God do what He does best: refresh, restore, and transform the daily into something of eternal value.

How about you? Have you started well but gotten off track?

Do you feel like you need a do-over?

If so, it’s not too late. Turns out EVERY day is a good day to start fresh…

“But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called ‘Today’…”
