DAY 4: MORNING GLORY…

Morning glory (TN landscape)

I don’t often get up this early.

At least not lately.

Weariness has enticed me to trade the wonder of the wee hours for the allure of an extra hour of two of sleep.

An understandable exchange.

That is, until you taste it again…

The peacefulness.

The quiet.

The untainted beauty of a newly minted day where nothing much has happened. Yet anything could.

The daily reset button offered to the world in grand Technicolor…like clockwork every twenty-four hours without fail.

Yet if you’re like me, you often miss it.

I trudge from Monday to Tuesday to Wednesday…I drag myself into Thursday…I flail my way through Friday…I waste most of Saturday and pray my way through Sunday in hopes that Monday will be different.

Yet come Monday morning, I tend to sleep right through it…again.

It wasn’t always like this.

There was a day I got up early…

  • I climbed the hill and greeted the day

  • I marveled at beauty and drank in sunshine

  • I savored sweetness and sojourned with the Almighty

  • I glimpsed mysteries and overheard secrets He’d been longing to tell

  • I watched the birds as they watched me

  • I watched the day unfurl itself one magical moment at a time…newly refreshed and gloriously lovely.

And suddenly that old snooze button…

…doesn’t seem so helpful after all.

I love this post! Your writing is beautiful! I too awoke this morning at 5am and felt the new day beckoning me to join it before the rest of the world woke up. I even grabbed my journal and penned a few pages myself. I love this time of the morning – though I too rarely rise early enough to fully embrace all this time has to offer!

This is so moving, so poetic.I hear the Father’s voice calling me forth, calling me to listen and venture into the last quiet of darkness before the dawning of a new day. And yes, it is here that “He talks with me and walks with me and tells me I am His own…”Inspiring truth so needed. This is the core of our being – His presence – where every longing of our soul is comforted and every lie is shattered! Thank you, dear Kim!
